As the last post on Google’s most popular search items is by far the most popular, robinson has decided to put up another one.

In March, the most popular words typed in Google were:

Australia – Top Gaining Queries: March 2007

This information courtesy of Google’s Zeitgeist website.

However, Robinson urges readers to take these results with caution: These are the top gaining queries, not the most used ones in absolute terms. Robinson still believes that most queries are about things that, well, Google wouldn’t want to publish. Not lease because it becomes boring to say: «Sex has been the most important search term last month.» Like all the months before.

When doing house work, Robinson is always open for some distraction. Last time he did the dishes, he thought it would be a good opportunity to try out whether the new digital camera is really as waterproof as the manufacturer claims it is. So he took a picture of himself through the eyes of the dishes. See the result here: (mehr…)

Look at this packet of tomatoes. They’re nice and red and behind a classy-looking plastic foil.

Look what happens when you remove the foil.

Well it’s obviously a coincidence that all the unripe green tomatoes ended up under the black part of the cover and all the nice, tempting-looking red ones were visible. Who could seriously think they’re systematically trying to fool people?!

New media have always been met by a fair bit of scepticism. When the first newspapers started finding a fond readership in the fine salons of the big European cities, some 250 years ago, talk emerged of newspaper addiction. Robinson’s generation had to constantly reassure parents that they weren’t at all watching TV for an excessive amount of time. But now, in 2007, TV is no longer seen as the main reason for social decay. It’s the Internet.

Among a lot of other interesting changes to his computer configuration, Robinson has lately given up his long-time favourite non-Microsoft email client Eudora in favour of Google Mail (Gmail). This change came after he started getting to know Microsoft Office Outlook at work and found that this program has some really handy features Eudora just hasn’t – most notably the calendar. (mehr…)

I was Russell Crowe's StoogeAnd he wrote an excellent article about it: Jack Marx. Very funny and insightful. Every journo should read this, to make sure not to fall into the same trap…

Robinson must admit: He really liked Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind. But Marx’ story makes you think: Is it worth seeing the Bra Boys? Or are all the plugs in the media just bought by money, invitations, favours, promises of friendship?

How many journalists have chosen their job just to associate themselves with those who are up there in the sphere of glamour, fame, money and power? What percentage of media is a result of genuine independent research and reflects true opinions rather than sycophantic favours? Make sure you read Marx’ story.

It was a hard call when we made this video: Which language should we speak in. English, so the largest possible number of people would understand us? German, so Pipollina’s German-speaking blogger friend would understand us? Or Swiss German, so we would feel most comfortable bubbling out everything that came to mind? We decided on the latter. So to make it easier for you to enjoy, you’ll find a summary of what this is all about below.

Robinson has been found with:

what’s google’s most googled item? – Well, Robinson doesn’t know, but his is Google.

Youtube Thanks God for Roger Federer – That’s right, Youtube is quite a religious dude and just desperately in love with good ol’ Roger.

most googled name this week - is Google.

most googled

most googled 2007

It turns out that people use Google to find out what people google for. And what astonishes Robinson most, none of the porn terms have yet brought anyone to this blog. Maybe because he forgot to list the most obvious one, namely sex? He also forgot cock. Now that the list is complete, or at least extended, let’s see how we go. The problem might also be that there are so many sites out there that legitimately contain the porn keywords that Robinson only shows up as number 6,456,876 or so. Again, thanks for the clicks anyway.

The thing about big cities is that there is no everyday life. Today, the Sydney CBD was in lock-down mode because of US Vice President Dick Cheney’s visit. This only just after two of the world’s largest cruise ships, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elisabeth 2, met in Sydney Harbour which led to curious drivers clogging up the roads around Woolloomooloo. And there are the festivals and concerts, the markets and political demonstrations all the time. Gay Mardi Gras, Tropfest, Sydney Festival, Open Air Cinemas, the world’s most spectacular fireworks (or so they say) on New Years Eve. People who need to make their weekends pass by doing something special or witnessing something unique, can best do so in big cities. (mehr…)

Every day, when Robinson comes home from work, the first thing for him is to empty the letter box. It’s usually a quick process to sort out the mail that interests him from the junk that annoys him. Although Robinson is not a radical junk-hater – our migrant has even taken up the rather disturbing habit of collecting all the food delivery flyers, «because you never know when you run out of food next time», as Robinson will point out – tongue in cheek – to anyone questioning the merits of this neurotic thing to do.
