Erst mal sterben – dann wird jeder, aber wirklich jeder, plötzlich zum „Top Bloke“. Sogar einer vom Schlag eines Jörg Haider. Das haben die australischen Chaser-Boys schon vor über einem Jahr sehr treffend in einem Song festgehalten.

 

Pietät hat eine stärkere Zensurwirkung als die Jugendschutzbehörde. Pietät ist widerlich.

 

Virgina Tech-Massaker als Computerspiel

Da hat ein Junge aus Sydney eine zynische Idee gehabt. Ist zwar nicht illegal, aber nach allgemeinem Verständnis irgendwie falsch, ja sogar verbotener als so manches, das auch nach dem Buchstaben des Gesetzes verboten ist.

Und zwar hat der 21-Jährige ein mini-Computergame programmiert, in dem der Spieler in die Haut des Virginia Tech-Massenmörders Cho Seung-hui schlüpft und dessen Schiesswut nachspielt.

Das Spiel «VTech Rampage» hat er unter dem Nickname «Master PiGPEN» auf die Upload-Seite Newgrounds hochgeladen. Von da wurde es inzwischen entfernt, aber auf seiner eigenen Seite ist es immer noch zu finden.

Der Programmierer schreibt, er werde das Spiel von Newgrounds entfernen, wenn er US$1000 gespendet erhält, von seiner eigenen Seite, wenn er US$2000 erhält, und er werde sich entschuldigen, wenn er US$3000 auf sein Paypal-Konto einbezahlt erhält. Nachzulesen hier.

As the last post on Google’s most popular search items is by far the most popular, robinson has decided to put up another one.

In March, the most popular words typed in Google were:

However, Robinson urges readers to take these results with caution: These are the top gaining queries, not the most used ones in absolute terms. Robinson still believes that most queries are about things that, well, Google wouldn’t want to publish. Not lease because it becomes boring to say: «Sex has been the most important search term last month.» Like all the months before.

Look at this packet of tomatoes. They’re nice and red and behind a classy-looking plastic foil.

Look what happens when you remove the foil.

Well it’s obviously a coincidence that all the unripe green tomatoes ended up under the black part of the cover and all the nice, tempting-looking red ones were visible. Who could seriously think they’re systematically trying to fool people?!

New media have always been met by a fair bit of scepticism. When the first newspapers started finding a fond readership in the fine salons of the big European cities, some 250 years ago, talk emerged of newspaper addiction. Robinson’s generation had to constantly reassure parents that they weren’t at all watching TV for an excessive amount of time. But now, in 2007, TV is no longer seen as the main reason for social decay. It’s the Internet.

Robinson must admit: He really liked Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind. But Marx’ story makes you think: Is it worth seeing the Bra Boys? Or are all the plugs in the media just bought by money, invitations, favours, promises of friendship?

How many journalists have chosen their job just to associate themselves with those who are up there in the sphere of glamour, fame, money and power? What percentage of media is a result of genuine independent research and reflects true opinions rather than sycophantic favours? Make sure you read Marx’ story.
